Summit Team Honors Fallen Soldiers at Pine Grove Cemetery

FALMOUTH, ME – Summit Natural Gas of Maine (Summit) team members were honored to assist the Town of Falmouth at Pine Grove Cemetery just in time for the upcoming holiday, Memorial Day.

A Memorial Day tradition that is important to many communities is visiting local memorials and decorating the gravesites of veterans. To make the process easier for Falmouth locals, a group of Summit team members were delighted with the opportunity to assist by locating veterans’ graves sites at Pine Grove Cemetery for the town's records.

Many patrons couldn’t visit local cemeteries or display flag decorations at veterans’ gravesites last year due to COVID-19 precautions. This year, Summit team members jumped at the chance to ensure that the Pine Grove Cemetery had enough volunteers to locate veterans’ gravesites and to honor the heroic men and women who gave their lives for this country.

“This opportunity was particularly rewarding because of the task at hand. We mapped and plotted American veterans’ gravesites for the town website to give the public access for GPS. I am grateful to be able to use my volunteer time to honor the men and women that allowed us to have the way of life that we all use today,” said Paul Lewis, Senior Manager of Operations at Summit.

This volunteer opportunity was made possible by Summit’s award-winning Volunteer Time Off program, which provides team members up to 20 hours a year of paid time off to volunteer in their communities.
