Summit Team Member passionate about making masks to help others fight COVID-19

April 14, 2020

Augusta, ME – At Summit, “kindness” is one of our core values, that’s why, when Summit team member Alice Young heard that local nonprofits that serve vulnerable populations were in need of facemasks to protect their staff and volunteers, she went to work.

Taking advantage of her company provided Volunteer Time Off and, Alice has created over 85 masks from the safety of her own home for friends, family, and local nonprofit organizations. She has provided masks to the Augusta Food Bank and is working on a new batch for another Kennebec Valley area non-profit.

Alice’s colorful fabric masks feature fashionable themes, stripes, polka dots, and other lively patterns for her family, friends and organization volunteers to wear. The hand-washable masks have elastic bands that wrap around the ears. Alice has paid for all of the material out of pocket.

“I have worked for Summit Utilities for 7 years and sewing happens to be one of my favorite things to do,” explained Alice. “When I heard there was a shortage of masks and we were recommended to wear them, I went straight to work.”

This is just one way the Summit team is giving back to the communities we serve during this difficult time. Click here to learn more about our COVID-19 relief efforts.

Thank you, Alice, for showing your commitment to your local community.
