Effective November 8, 2019, the following terms and conditions apply to the 2019 Residential Referral Promotional Program (“Program”) being offered by Summit Natural Gas of Maine, Inc. (“Summit”) to customers, as defined in Summit’s Terms and Conditions (each, a “Referrer”)and new customers referred by a Referrer (“Referral”).

1. Terms & Conditions: By applying for or using this Program, Referrer and Referral agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.

2. To participate in the program, Referrer must be an active customer of Summit. The Referral must convert their primary heating system to natural gas. Referral cannot have previously been a customer of Summit within the last 12 months from the date of referral.

3. A completed application by the Referral listing the name and address of the Referrer is required. Only one referral is allowed per account. There are no limits to the number of referrals that a Referrer can make in the program.

4. All personal information on the application will be kept confidential except to the extent disclosure is required to comply with applicable law.

5. If all requirements are met, the Referrer and Referral will each receive a $250.00 dollar check payment which will be processed monthly. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for check delivery after processing.

6. All money awarded is considered taxable income and is subject to local, state, and federal taxes. If the value of the referrals reaches $600 dollars or more in a calendar year, a 1099 tax form will be generated and mailed to the Referrer for tax reporting purposes.

7. The Referrer and Referral are not entitled to collect on any referral made in violation of these Terms and Conditions.

8. A Referrer cannot refer any property they own.

9. The following individuals are not eligible for this program: • Employees of Summit Natural Gas of Maine, Inc.

  • Anyone that is not an active customer with Summit cannot be a Referrer
  • Any HVAC Contractor
  • Meters which cannot currently be connected to a mainline. The program is for infill only.
  • No new developments or building projects less than 1 year old.

10. Modification or Termination: These terms and conditions shall terminate automatically on November 1, 2020. Summit reserves the right to modify, discontinue, or terminate a Promotional Rebate or this Program, or any aspect thereof, at any time, with such notice as required by 35-A M.R.S. § 307 as amended from time to time. Any modified terms will be posted to the official Rebate website at and will be submitted to the Commission’s Case Management System with an effective date indicated therein.

11. Applicable Law: This Program, and any disputes relating thereto, shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the internal laws of the State of Maine without giving effect to any choice or conflict of law provision or rule (whether of the State of Maine or any other jurisdiction) that would cause the application of laws of any jurisdiction other than those of the State of Maine.

12. Dispute Resolution: Any dispute arising out of or relating to this program shall be brought to the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
