Get ready for winter! Simple steps to reduce energy usage

As you may have read or seen on the news lately, the cost of energy, including natural gas, is increasing across the United States and world as we head into winter months. This is being driven by increased demand and decreased production caused by extreme weather events and the impacts of COVID-19.

we work hard to secure the lowest gas price for our customers and do not make a profit off of the cost of natural gas we deliver to you. While natural gas continue be the most affordable option for heating your home or business this winter, the commodity price on your upcoming winter heating bills is predicted to be higher than last winter.

With that in mind, we wanted to take the opportunity to remind you of simple steps you can take to reduce your energy usage, save money, and stay warm this winter season.

Simple steps to reduce energy usage this winter:

  • Clear space around your registers so warm air can flow freely.
  • Close dampers on unused fireplaces and keep garage doors closed to prevent warm air from escaping.
  • Insulate around window and doors to prevent air leaks and keep warm air inside.
  • Soak up the sun by opening curtains on your south-facing windows during the day and let the sunlight heat your home. Then, close them at night to reduce the incoming cold from any drafty windows.
  • Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting (120°F).
