Summit Natural Gas of Maine Awards $20,000 to Local Nonprofits Through Summit Cares

Grants support organizations that meet essential needs and strengthen communities across the company’s service area.

PORTLAND, Maine. (July 28, 2026) — Four Maine nonprofits will expand financial education, public health, and hunger-relief programs after receiving a combined $20,000 through the 2026 Summit Cares Grant Program, the charitable giving program of Summit Natural Gas of Maine and its parent company, Summit Utilities.

The annual charitable giving program supports nonprofit organizations operating across Summit Natural Gas of Maine’s service territory and helps advance programs that make a meaningful difference for local residents.

The 2026 awardees include:

• Junior Achievement of Maine: Prepares students for their future through programs focused on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.
• Healthy Northern Kennebec: Brings community partners together to identify local health needs and improve public health across northern Kennebec County.
• Waterville Area Soup Kitchen: Provides nourishing meals and connects guests with community resources in a welcoming environment.
• Skowhegan Community Food Cupboard: Helps address food insecurity by providing food assistance to individuals and families in the Skowhegan area.

To qualify for a Summit Cares grant, applicants must operate within Summit Natural Gas of Maine's service territory and show documentation of 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-exempt status. The program prioritizes organizations focused on basic human needs, STEAM education, community enrichment, and environmental stewardship.
